This book examines the role of the UN in conflict resolution in
Africa in the 1960s and its relation to the Cold War.
Focussing on the Congo, this book shows how the preservation of
the existing economic and social order in the Congo was a key
element in the decolonisation process and the fighting of the Cold
War. It links the international aspects of British, Belgian,
Angolan and Central African Federation involvement with the roles
of the US and UN in order to understand how supplies to and profits
from the Congo were producing growing African problems. This large
Central African country played a vital, if not fully understood
role, in the Cold War and proved to be a fascinating example of
complex African problems of decolonisation interacting with
international forces, in ways that revealed a great deal about the
problems inherent in colonialism and its end.
This book will be of much interest to students of US foreign
policy, the UN, Cold War history and international history in
general.

A critical contribution to the history of Britain and the U.S., this book demonstrates how the search for personal supernatural power lay at the heart of the so-called eighteenth-century English evangelical revival. John Kent rejects the view that the Wesleys rescued the British from moral and spiritual decay by reviving primitive Christianity. The study is of interest to everyone concerned with the history of Methodism and the Church of England, the Evangelical tradition, and eighteenth-century religious thought and experience.
William Temple (1881 1944) was the outstanding British religious
leader of the twentieth century. He believed that the 'modern
state' was incomplete without a modern Christian church, which
should set the moral and political tone of the community. His
political and religious best seller, Christianity and Social Order,
which was published as a Penguin Special in 1942, was one of the
sources of the wide support for the British welfare state of the
1950s. Temple was the most successful and controversial of British
'priests in politics' because as an Archbishop he combined the idea
of national unity rooted in a common set of religious/moral values
with a constant demand for political change in the direction of
greater social equality. He thus combined conservative and radical
impulses to a remarkable degree. This is a study of Temple's public
life and policy in Britain, and of his part in the movement to
unite the world's Protestant churches.
The proceedings consist of papers accepted by the 5th ICEMGD, which

International Relations since 1945 is the most student-friendly
guide to the history of international relations. In it, Young and
Kent provide an accessible and comprehensive introduction to key
developments in international relations across the world. Now in
its third edition, the text has been thoroughly updated to include
contemporary developments and includes a brand new concluding part:
'The Age of Uncertainty, 2011 - 2018'. New to the third edition are
three chapters covering developments from the last decade. The
first of these, 'Conflict and Chaos in the Middle East', describes
the development of the War in Syria and the emergence of the
so-called Islamic State. Young & Kent tackle Brexit and the
Trump administration in a new chapter on 'Threats to the existing
Global Order: Instability in the West'. The final new chapter
details 'Challenges from the East' with an overview of Russia's
unstable relationship with NATO, North Korea's nuclear ambitions,
and China's new international economic rules under the leadership
of Xi Jinping. International Relations Since 1945 is helpfully
structured chronologically and by region, taking the reader through
the tension of the Cold War and post-war decolonisation to the
Vietnam War, The Detente Era, and the latest developments in Middle
East politics. Furthermore, students are supported by helpful
learning features including biographies of key figures and
chronologies of events.

It's not easy being a teenager at the best of times, but for Tess,
things seem to be going from bad to worse. Her dad spends all his
time drooling over his "Snugglepuss" and behaving like a lovesick
puppy, while at school her English teacher, has singled her out as
a hopeless case.
A Pusher, Pleaser, Romantic, Perfectionist, Critic, Judge..... each
of us is made up of many selves or parts. Some we know very well,
some we may have had glimpses of and others are hidden away in the
shadows. Selves in Action is a commentary on one man's life.
Sharing his experience of his many and diverse selves, John gives
us insight into our own condition and how the different parts of us
inform and influence our daily lives. He then explores further....
What is the nature of the awareness in which and with which we
experience this amazing inner family?... What is the unity out of
which the multiplicity of selves arises?
